Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Review, analyze and prepare contractor, subcontractor, and NASA program submittals, including accident risk assessment reports, preliminary hazard analyses, system hazard analyses, tracking, system and system inspection checklists, ground and range safety and orbital safety procedures, and accident and incident investigation analyses.
• Review and analyze program development documentation for new and ongoing programs including design criteria, specification and drawing, test operations and maintenance procedures, safety equipment and personal protective clothing, trade-off studies, and sighting plans.
• Conduct independent and complex analyses to evaluate systems design, accident risk factors and hazard energy sources, and recommend major abatement or mitigation actions.
• Prepare test plans, monitor results and prepare final test reports. You may conduct special analyses, if directed.
• Prepare materials for presentation and participate in design reviews, technical interchange and related meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Active Public Trust level Federal security Clearance
• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline with typically a minimum of 7 years of related experience; or Master’s degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or PhD in similar disciplines with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
• Engineering experience in electrical hardware design such as power, battery, and charging systems
• Wide-ranging experience in the field of System Safety or Systems Engineering
• Ability to prioritize schedules in support of multiple customers and identify potentially hazardous operations and conditions that could directly involve or potentially impact personnel or space flight hardware
• Experience in performing independent risk assessment of products and processes
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
• Ability to work well in team environment as lead or team member
• Familiarity with NASA safety requirements, policies and procedures
• System Safety Engineering field/floor experience
• Experience in working well with all levels of personnel and management
• Extensive experience in technical documentation
