Job Description
This job analyzes risk factors for new enrollment, annual renewals, and amendments of insurance contracts or self-funded plans in conformance with established underwriting policies, practices, and standards. This role serves as a point of contact for sales teams and assigned customers, delivering insights and recommendations to aid customer acquisition and retention while maintaining performance goals. This role analyzes data such as type of industry, financial condition, and other characteristics to assess risk for a book of business consisting of standard small and mid-sized clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Partner with sales teams and underwriting colleagues to manage a portfolio of clients while supporting membership, revenue, and profitability goals.
• Review new business, renewals, and plan changes to evaluate risk and develop competitive pricing recommendations.
• Prepare and manage customer quotes using established underwriting guidelines and company rating tools.
• Analyze client data, including demographics, risk scores, claims experience, industry characteristics, and financial information to assess risk.
• Identify unusual risk factors or claim patterns and collaborate with senior underwriters to determine appropriate pricing strategies.
• Communicate underwriting recommendations and quote details with internal business partners, including sales and account management teams.
• Maintain accurate underwriting documentation, portfolio information, and concession tracking.
• Support workload coordination and ensure work is completed within established quality and turnaround standards.
• Continue developing underwriting knowledge, industry expertise, and an understanding of company products and strategic goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business, Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, or another quantitative field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
• Comfortable using Microsoft Office and learning new systems and technology.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
• Previous experience in underwriting, insurance, finance, risk management, actuarial analysis, banking, accounting, or another analytical environment.
• Experience working with data analysis, financial modeling, or quantitative analysis.
• Familiarity with insurance products or underwriting principles.
