Job Description
Summary
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of electrical systems within occupied facilities. This role ensures the reliability, safety, and compliance of building electrical infrastructure while supporting ongoing maintenance activities, upgrades, and facility improvement projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide engineering support for the maintenance, repair, and operation of facility electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency power systems, fire alarm systems, and low- to medium-voltage equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical system issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions to minimize downtime and ensure continuous facility operations.
• Review and develop electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and specifications as needed to support maintenance activities and minor capital projects.
• Support preventative and corrective maintenance programs to ensure compliance with NFPA, NEC, OSHA, and local AHJ requirements.
• Assist with electrical system upgrades, renovations, equipment replacements, and energy efficiency initiatives.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams, contractors, and vendors to plan and execute electrical work safely and effectively.
• Support commissioning, testing, and inspection activities for new or modified electrical systems.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, standards, and facility safety policies.
• Prepare technical reports, maintenance documentation, and system evaluations as required.
• Provide on-call or after-hours support as needed to address facility electrical issues or emergencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 3 years of experience supporting electrical systems in facilities maintenance, building operations, or industrial environments.
• Working knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, lighting systems, generators, UPS systems, and building electrical infrastructure.
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, and local electrical codes.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team-based facilities environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
• Experience supporting mission-critical or occupied facilities.
• Knowledge of energy management systems, building automation systems, or power quality analysis.
• Experience working with maintenance management systems (CMMS).
