Job Description
Summary
The Mechanical Engineer supports the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of mechanical systems within occupied facilities. This role ensures building systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently while complying with applicable codes, standards, and facility requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide engineering support for the maintenance, repair, and operation of facility mechanical systems, including HVAC, chillers, boilers, pumps, air handling units, plumbing systems, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical system issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions to minimize downtime and maintain occupant comfort.
• Review, develop, and update mechanical drawings, specifications, and system documentation to support maintenance activities and minor capital projects.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance programs in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and applicable standards (ASHRAE, OSHA, local codes).
• Assist with mechanical system upgrades, renovations, retrofits, and energy efficiency or sustainability initiatives.
• Coordinate with facility maintenance personnel, contractors, and vendors to plan and execute mechanical work safely and efficiently.
• Support system testing, balancing, commissioning, and inspections for new or modified mechanical systems.
• Monitor system performance and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and maintainability.
• Ensure all mechanical work complies with applicable codes, standards, and facility safety policies.
• Prepare technical reports, maintenance procedures, and system evaluations as required.
• Provide on-call or after-hours engineering support as needed for mechanical system issues or emergencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience supporting mechanical systems in facilities maintenance, building operations, or an industrial environment.
• Working knowledge of HVAC systems, hydronic systems, plumbing, and general building mechanical infrastructure.
• Familiarity with ASHRAE standards, OSHA regulations, and local mechanical codes.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented facilities environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
• Experience supporting occupied, mission-critical, or industrial facilities.
• Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) and energy management systems.
• Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
