My name is Joyce Bender and I am the CEO and President of Bender Consulting Services, Inc., a firm that recruits, screens, and directs individuals with disabilities, to private and public sector employers, to increase employment of people with disabilities in professional career areas.
This blog will address the competitive employment of people with disabilities.
In the United States today, over 70 percent of Americans with disabilities are characterized by the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics as being unemployed or not in the labor force. Americans with disabilities should have the right to work, as all other Americans have. Employers seek, now more than ever, employees who are dedicated, reliable, flexible, nimble and grateful to work. This population of talent has the skills and abilities to exceed expectations at work.
This blog will also address anti-bullying.
Young people who are living with disabilities face bullying at higher levels than young people who do not have disabilities. Today's youth have the right to be educated in a safe environment, so they can have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. We seek to empower youth with disabilities to embrace self-confidence and focus on acheiving personal success.
This blog will also address current disability issues and legislation.
We have the best opportunity to affect change in the area of employment of Americans with disabilities with recent proposed regulatory reform for affirmative action for people with disabilities that applies to federal contractors (Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act), as well as the July 2010 presidential executive order to increase employment of Americans with disabilities.
