Job Description

Summary:
This role is essential in supporting the safe and effective delivery of medications to patients. Work alongside pharmacists to assist with medication dispensing, inventory management, patient care, and ensuring compliance with health regulations.

Responsibilities:
• Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications accurately and efficiently. Under direct supervision of the pharmacist, fills routine patient orders for unit dose carts and prepackaged pharmaceuticals, preparing, compounding and labeling IV admixture.
• Maintain and manage medication inventory, ensuring proper storage and stock levels.
• Perform routine quality checks on medications and pharmacy supplies.
• Label prescriptions and ensure all necessary documentation is complete and accurate.
• Process medication orders and review for any potential issues or discrepancies.
• Compounds, stocks, repackages and batches from bulk medications. Prepare routine patient orders for IV pharmaceuticals.
• Prepare medications for patient discharge and ensure clear communication with medical staff.
• Assist in maintaining a clean and organized pharmacy environment.
• Provide support for pharmacy billing and insurance verification as needed.
• Comply with hospital policies, federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations.
• Provide customer service to patients, caregivers, and hospital staff, addressing any medication-related concerns.

Qualifications:
• Pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) or ExCPT Pharmacy Technician - National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
• Previous experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting is required.
• Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, medications, and dosages.
• Competency in the using Pharmacy resources, including computer software (i.e., Automated Dispensing Cabinets, packagers, BCMA) and other technology.
• Ability to accurately measure, mix, and label medications.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a healthcare environment.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to patient privacy regulations (HIPAA).
