Job Description

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is responsible for providing direct care to patients and assisting with non-direct patient care unit coordination.

Responsibilities:
• Provide direct patient care under the general supervision of an RN for patients in stable condition, and under the direct supervision of an RN for acutely ill or complex patients.
• Assist with basic nursing procedures such as taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), and supporting patient comfort needs.
• Maintain knowledge of the patient population and needs within the assigned work area.
• Ensure adherence to medical asepsis protocols and infection control practices.
• Respect and maintain patient privacy and dignity, maintaining objectivity in all aspects of patient care.
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations and provide assistance as needed.
• Assist in the coordination of unit activities, including patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
• Communicate effectively and accurately with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Document all patient care activities accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record.
• Maintain a clean and organized unit environment, including patient rooms and common areas.
• Work closely with the Charge Nurse and/or Care Team Leader to receive written and verbal assignments and complete tasks efficiently within scheduled times.
• Demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills to complete tasks within expected time frames.
• Assist with patient mobility, transfer, and comfort measures as directed by the RN.
• Participate in unit-related duties that contribute to a safe and efficient working environment.
• Comply with all hospital policies and procedures, including safety and emergency protocols.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current certification CPR required.
• Completion of a Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician training program is preferred.
• Previous patient care experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
